In Need of Lemon Aid? Discover the Best Hacks Using Lemon Juice for Black Hair!

Do you ever get those days when your natural black hair just feels, and looks, stressed, tired and in need of a little TLC?

Well, if you have a couple of fresh lemons in your fruit bowl, the problem is easily remedied. Lemons are brilliant DIY hair product that you probably already have, and if not, they’re easy to find and won’t break the bank.

If your hair is like mine, too much product residue can leave it dull and prone to breaking, but instead of reaching for an expensive clarifying shampoo, pick up a lemon.

Lemons contain antioxidants, minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium, and vitamins including C and B6, which are all important for healthy hair. Known as an aid to increase hair growth, its use can stimulate the follicles and scalp, reduce dry skin and remove excess oils.

Lemon Clarifying Shampoo

First, squeeze enough lemons to make ¼ cup of fresh juice. This uses approximately 2 lemons, depending on size. Pour into a bowl and add a cup of warm water. This can either be applied straight onto your hair, or you can add some other ingredients, such as honey, cider vinegar or essential oils. These only need a small amount to be effective.

Once mixed, massage gently through your freshly shampooed hair, or use it in between shampoos for a natural cleanser. Once your scalp and hair are covered in the lemon mixture, leave it on for 3 to 5 minutes, and rinse with cold water.

Lemon Conditioning Mask

This mask is great for dry itchy scalps, alopecia and dandruff.

Squeeze approximately ¼ cup of lemon juice into a bowl and add a couple of tablespoons of honey, olive oil and coconut oil and mix thoroughly. Massage this through your hair, rubbing it in well, before covering with a shower cap. Leave it on for 20 – 30 minutes, before rinsing as normal.

Lemon Hair Loss Treatment

Squeeze ½ cup of lemon juice, more if your hair is very thick, and add some apple cider vinegar, cumin powder and ground black pepper. Apply to your hair, massaging it in well, especially where your hair is thinning. Leave it on for a few minutes and then rinse thoroughly.

Lemon Hair Thickening Treatment

Squeeze ½ a cup of lemon juice, and mix in egg yolk, a teaspoon of honey, and a tablespoon of olive oil. Massage this mix through your hair, preferably when wet. Cover with a shower cap and wait thirty minutes before rinsing as normal.

As you can see, lemons are a superfood miracle for your hair, so always make sure you keep some close by, once you’ve finished dressing the salad, or making lemon marmalade (because we all have time to make marmalade, don’t we!).
