Rocking the Curly Afro Wig
Most of the Afro Americans that I know, including myself, have a range of wigs that we love to wear. My other friends just don’t get it, though – the ones that know I wear wigs, that is, as I don’t advertize the fact.
But why are wigs so popular in black society?
As gorgeous as our natural hair is, it can take time and effort to take care of and keep it healthy and looking great. Without a decent moisturizing regimen, it’s soon dry and brittle, and feels like straw, and even with a good routine, we all have bad hair days when we just don’t have the time to sort it. A wig is the perfect solution and we can head out looking awesome in no time.
Wearing a wig is a means of protecting our natural hair. We can still rock the look, while our real hair can grow and gain a healthy shine in peace. Getting subjected to traffic fumes, dirt and dust on a daily basis can dry out and damage the shafts of our natural hair.
Wearing a wig eliminates this problem.
Another reason is that traditionally we’re used to wearing braids. Just look through any history book on the slavery years, when the mistress of the house would shave the heads slaves, in the belief that they would lose their culture and ‘wildness’. As their hair started to grow back, the women would braid it to disguise the new growth, and to keep it clean and tidy.
Unfortunately, wearing tight braids can damage the hair follicles around the hairline, due to the tension they are under. Hair breakage is the first sign of damage, followed by bald patches, and a wig is just perfect for covering this up.
I’m trying out the three best selling wigs and hitting the town!
1) AISI HAIR Curly Afro Wig
With full afro curls reaching to my shoulders, this synthetic, heat resistant wig looks awesome, and going by the amount of compliments, completely natural. It’s fully adjustable to provide a comfortable and secure fit, and despite being pulled around, it stayed firmly in place. I thought it would feel too hot as I’m used to lace wigs, but once I got used to the difference, it was pretty fine. It did arrive a little flattened, and I was a bit worried it wouldn’t fluff up. However, after a finger comb and a few good shakes, it soon looked like a natural hairstyle with bounce and shine.
This one is being added to my collection, and yes, I name my wigs – this one is KC, don’t ask me why.

- 【About Style】: The afro curly wig is full and big, if you like full hair, it’s perfect for you. If the hair is too much for you, you can trim it to make it the style you want.
- 【Method of fluffy wig】Due to packaging and transportation reasons, the product you received may be slightly different from the product. But don‘t worry about it, you can use your finger or comb to grab it a few times to make the wig full, then you will get a wig like the picture.
2) Lizzy Ombre Brown Afro Wig
I fancied a change when I ordered this wig as I’ve never gone down the ombre route, and I’m very impressed with the quality of the coloring. Natural coils with a bronzed finish, just longer than shoulder length, and full bodied, this wig is perfect if you don’t want to bleach your natural hair, or if you’re growing it out. With a size adjustable lace cap, my head felt cool and fresh all day and night. Because it’s quite full, it does take a while to air dry once washed, but that’s a small price for such a great wig. People were surprized to see ‘my hair’ bleached – I didn’t disillusion them!
I’ve named this one Gina.

3) Pizazz Human Hair Curly Wig
Meet Aiysha. She’s a lengthy lace capped wig, constructed from human hair, with glorious soft waves. She is fully adjustable and comes with 4 combs for extra security and a FREE eyelash set – what more does a girl want! Available in several lengths, I chose 14 inches, which is long enough to wear in any style. Being human hair, I was a bit wary, but it didn’t shed or smell and the hair is hygienically cleaned and treated before being made into this high quality wig. Again, like the others I received more compliments wearing this wig than for my natural hair. Not sure whether I should be disappointed, but hey, the wig is comfortable enough to wear all the time – let the good times roll!
